Ellen Hall...an accomplished artist

Nature's Soul...Photographer

My early photography achievement include placing 3rd in the 1993 Annual Kodak International Newspaper Snapshot Awards (KINSA) Contest through the Press Republican and the acceptance of one of my 1998 Ice Storm photographs by the International Library of Photography’s North American Open Amateur Contest. This was published in their 1999 Gallery of Life.

I took the Bee on a Posey photograph in my front yard this summer using the Macro Setting of my Panasonic DMC-LZ5 Lumix Digital Camera.  It portrays a wasp crawling out of the center of a Trumpet Vine flower.  It hung in the Amateur's Only! Juried Art Exhibit at the Frederic Remington Museum in the Fall of 2006.  The price for a matted and framed 8 X 10 of this photograph, purchased through forARTSake, is $125.  Other sizes can be special ordered.

Following my retirement from teaching Malone Middle School mathematics, I became more seriously interested in photography at the prodding of family, friends, and especially Bev Quenville. Subsequently, my photographs have been displayed in Malone’s Open Juried Art Exhibits of 2005, 2006, and in the “Small Works Exhibit” of 2007, as well as in those of Malone’s 2005 Year of the River and 2006 RiverFest Open Juried Art Exhibits.

Ripples of Peace was taken at Emerald Lake in Gaylord, Michigan in 2003 with my Fuji Finepix 3800 digital camera.  An 8 X 10 matted and framed copy of this photograph can be purchased at forARTSake for $75 (with less expensive frame) or $125 (with metal museum frame).

Other accomplishments include winning the Edna Hill Best Photograph Award and 5 ribbons at the 2005 Franklin County Fair. I have photographs online in the Photo Gallery and the Finalists Gallery of the 2006 Great Backyard Bird Count sponsored by the Audubon Society and Cornell Lab of Ornithology, as well as the Cornell Lab’s website featuring amateur’s bird photographs.

Grampa was taken with my digital camera of 96-year old Nathan Young at the wedding of his grandson, Nathan Young, and Bobbi Jo Bissonette in July 2005.  It has been awarded both the Edna Hill Best Photograph at the 2005 Franklin County Fair and 2nd place in the Photography Division of the Massena Art Association's 22nd annual Exhibit in February 2007.  This photograph can be purchased at forArtsake for $135.

In the fall of 2006, I had two photographs accepted into “The 2006 Amateur Only! Juried Art Exhibit” at the Remington Museum in Ogdensburg, NY. My most recent accomplishment is the acceptance of two photo entries into the Massena Art Association’s 22nd Annual Exhibit in which my photograph entitled “Grampa” won second place in the Photography division.

Lily of the Valley was taken in one of our gardens with my Fuji Finepix 3800 digital camera. A 4 X 6 matted version (outside dimensions) of this photograph can be purchased at forARTSake for $10.  Various other sizes can be special ordered.

Currently, I have 2 photographs showing in the Adirondack Artist's Guild  2007 Juried Show that opened on Friday, March 9. The exhibit is available for viewing until Thursday, April 19 at 52 Main Street in Saranac Lake.

Field of Snow Geese was taken with a digital camera in a field outside the Village of Malone on State Route 11B. It was accepted into the 2006 Photo Gallery of the Great Backyard Bird count (GBBC) of February 2006 and ultimately was chosen as one of the 73 finalists out of the 213 bird photographs submitted.  A matted and framed 5 X 7 version of this photograph can be purchased at forARTSake for $60 to $80 depending on the style of frame that is chosen.  Other sizes are also available.
