| Gail Bessette...
a painter
of landscapes
capturing remembered scenes
...an artist statement |
|
My landscapes are not about an isolated place or a specific
time of day but rather about a particular feeling, a sense that is
initiated by a scene, one that is remembered instead of closely
observed. |
 |
I aim to capture the sensation of a first glance,
the moment just prior to recognition. |
| I have noticed that a sideways
glimpse of something will stimulate a sensation that disappears when
the scene is more closely scrutinized. |
 |
It is this initial impression and
all of its potential that I strive to create on canvas through the
use of color and design on a two dimensional surface. |
| Each painting is a soliloquy, an unspoken
reflection. As in a soliloquy, my thoughts or feelings are revealed
in each piece without regard to the audience. |
 |
It is my hope, however, that my paintings will
evoke in the viewer the same or similar sensations that are common
to us all regardless of our various life experience. |
