Jeanne Danforth...the artist resurfaces after all these years.

an expression of perceptions...an artist statement

I come from the rural American fringe. This is where I have lived for the past 30 years since my husband and I moved to a farm we bought in the rural area of Ellenburg, NY.

Farming is a blunt, straightforward life that does not entirely satisfy the artistic soul. However, I did turn my back to my art for a long time. Now my art is an expression of my perceptions of the life I live and in the surroundings I am a part of on a daily basis.
I graduated from Kansas City Art Institute in the 60's. After being a  commercial artist, I started living what I consider the antithesis of that life by becoming a farmer alongside my husband.    My art is an expression of my perceptions, and I mean perceptions, not observations. There is a difference. The observer is always subjective. There's no escaping that as you know.
I learned on the farm that if you anticipate surprises but not explanations and think about the surprises now and then, if you look again at what is ordinary, you shift your viewpoint, and the ordinary shifts with you, and art happens.  I look at my art as visual journaling. The magical and the pedestrian are one organism. The dynamic is created by the coexistence of the two in the image.
