Inspired by Nature...an
artist statement
|
| Something I've tried in the last few years is
Plein Air painting. A small group of us get together, especially in
the summer, to paint for several hours each week at different
locations. Mostly, however, I am on my own in our meadows and
forested property, which provides me with a rich source of subject
matter. |
 |
I started the basics of Summer Camp in a Plein Air session
on the banks of the Salmon River behind NCCC in Malone. The building
I included in the painting was very old and dilapidated. It takes on
importance in my rendering since it shapes up to be possibly a real
summer camp belonging to someone who is taking care of it. |
| Workshops with Tim Fortune have helped me learn
and grow in all aspects of my work. I am very much inspired by the
Group of Seven in their use of color and treatment of light and
dark. |
 |
I'm inspired by Nature, but I don't try to achieve a photographic
likeness. St. Regis Summit is the first mountain we climbed
with our daughter...those were wonderful times. It was a
short climb, and the view was majestic. |
| I have reached a point in my life where I am more
comfortable displaying my work. The older I get the more I paint for
myself, and if someone likes it, that's okay, too. |
|
We drove past Clam Shell Pond off Route 30 many times, and
we would comment on its beauty. One day I finally drove down and
took a photo of it so I could use as the basis for painting the
scene the way I still see it. |
| I now add framing to my lifelong connection to
art. Early on, a wise woman said to me, "Don't just frame other's
art...frame your own, too." Fortunately for me, I took her advice,
and the past five years at forartsake have been the most
artistically productive in my life. |
 |
This is a rendering of Prince Edward Island. We traveled
to this area in Canada and saw for ourselves the beauty of the
landscape. It was at a time when our daughter was reading Anne of
Green Gables. |
