| Margaret Tsuda...an artist creating
in oil, watercolor, and pastels my
life in art...an artist statement |
|
When I was a child, my mother took my older sister and me to the
Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. This occasion kindled in me a
love of fine art that continues seventy-five years later. |

This painting is entitled Corner of the
Lamitie-King Garden. Each summer the Malone Garden Club pays
a visit to our area's outstanding gardens. I cannot imagine another
garden plan which so elegantly incorporates all of the features of
the Adirondacks that we love adding the most charming and colorful
floral effects. |
| My studies in art at Hunter College
(NYC) were interrupted by marriage. Myworking life was in textile
design. In the 60's, I painted in a slightly stylized manner that
gave the nod to minimalist trends by utilizing only two pigment hues
plus white. |

This selection is called Twilight
Silhouette. Ordinarily, this view from my deck is a cheerful
view of the road across the bridge into the trees, but that evening,
it was invested with a dark mysterious beauty relieved by the rosy
remains of the setting sun. |
| My direction shifted to writing in the 1970's. Over
100 essays on art and two volumes of poetry that I illustrated were
published. The second book entitled Urban River is
still available. |

Daffodils is the title of this image.
Each spring I wait for the daffodils to show their determined green
spears through the last of the snow. Each year I paint my tribute to
their loveliness. |
| In the 1990's, I completed my degree in Art/Art
History at CUNY and spent my final year spent at the Université
de Paris. I continued through the decade to travel to England and
Europe to view famous paintings in significant art museums. Now I am
busy painting. Art workshops at forarsake and other places has
awakened in me the desire to paint. |

The oil painting called The Salmon River in
Winter took second place in the 2005 Malone Riverfest Juried
Art Exhibition at NCCC. |
