| Pamela May...
an oil painter and pen
and ink artist
One of the wonderful things about artists is that each one has such
a unique view of the world. |
|
Five years ago, I was inspired to start oil painting again
for the first time in thirty years. It opened up the world of color
to me once more. Using local subject matter for my art work deepens
my appreciation of the mountains, woods, and water that are all
around me. Where I am right now in art is a comfortable place in
time and space. |

Brook Babble is based on a Salmon River tributary that is found
off the Webster Street Road in Malone, NY. I painted this image
especially for the 2005 September Riverfest Art Exhibit |
| I grew up in Wyckoff, NJ. In high school, I
painted at the Ridgewood Art Association and afterwards attended the
Arts Students League in NYC. I worked in publishing and advertising
for roughly twenty-five years. Circumstances brought me to the North
Country in 1989, and I soon realized that here is where I
belong. I feel very spiritually connected to this area. |
 |
I entitled this oil painting Lake Flowers.
Its subject is Mountain View Lake. It is based on photographs I took
at the 1st Whimsical Women gathering in the summer of 2002. |
| I am used to building and making things. I come
from many generations of artisans from both sides of the family.
Some of the first lessons I remember my father teaching me were on
perspective. What I learned then is still applicable to the basic
drawing of the image. It is especially evident in my pen and ink
renderings of buildings in the area. |

Recently, I completed several paintings of trees in the
Adirondacks. In this oil entitled Autumn Boughs,
the trees have a unique perspective. Autumn light and color
dominate. |
