Introducing
Juror Dwight Baird
Born and raised in Huntingdon, Quebec, Dwight Baird specialized in
watercolors for over 20 years. After graduation from St. Lawrence
College in Cornwall, Ontario, he worked as a graphic artist and spent
two years traveling and painting in Europe.
These travels resulted in his first two collections of works, "A Touch
of Europe", in 1983 and "There and Back Again", in 1986. During the past
25 years Baird has presented numerous exhibitions, including four unique
series of paintings based on specific subjects. The first, in 1989, was
entitled "Newfoundland", depicting life and people in this province.
Next came "Carny-Midway", focusing on the sights, sounds and smells of
amusement parks and the "carny" lifestyle. This was followed by "For the
Love of the Game", a series of over 50 works depicting the great game of
baseball. One of these pieces, "At the Twilight's Last Gleaming", was
used as the concept for the cover of the 1994 Major League Baseball
All-Star Program. This was followed by "Night Vision", a series of
nocturnal images exploring moonlight and shadows.
In 994 the artist was commissioned by the Montreal McCord Museum for an
original watercolor, the featured image in the exhibition
Play Ball Montreal!
He was also honored as a recipient of a 2000 Premiers Award, presented
annually to graduates of Ontario colleges for outstanding accomplishment
in a specific field of study (Visual Arts). For the last 10 years Baird
has worked in acrylics and has developed an exciting new style of
contemporary realism - mixing the broad strokes of impressionism with
specific detailed areas in his work. He has been working on a unique
series of pieces depicting daily life in Cuba, documenting a time in
history which will never be seen again. Baird lives and works in his
studio in Montreal. Visit Dwight Baird at http://dwightbaird.com/
